The week on Rocker Life Coach mentorship has come to a close and I want to finish up this week by sharing the idea that it’s now up to you. I can teach you the points to show you how to find a mentor. I can share how learning from others’ mistakes is the best way to learn. And I can share what a true mentor is and how they help you.
The hardest thing to do in a blog format is tell you how to take this information and apply it to your life and business. For years I read many blogs, books, and was on mailing lists of very successful teachers, writers, and mentors. The one thing I did not do in those years was to get up out of my chair and apply what was being told. I still wanted to do it myself.
I recall the story I heard once of a man over in the woods cutting down trees. When he was asked what he was doing, he said, “I’m making a road to where I want to go.” Then many people stepped up and told him, “The road to get there is right over here. Come with us and we will take you.” The man replied, “No I cannot accept the road someone else has built. I must do it myself.”
At this point in the game of business and success, there are not many great, new ideas that we have to start from scratch and cut the trees down to make like a new road. When it comes to business and entrepreneur ideas, many of them have a few side tracks off the main road. Most of them you just have to widen the road.
But the biggest, most important move will be people getting on the road in the first place and make a choice to keep moving forward. It takes you getting out, and onto the road of success to make it happen. Once you do, you, like many mentors and leaders, will fall, learned from the fall, and get back up. And those mentors and leaders will be there to help guide you.
So anther week of blogs is done. It’s time for action on your part again. Who are you going to seek for a mentor, coach, advisor? Once you have a small bit of success, what are you going to do with it to pass that knowledge on?
Let’s change the world and let’s start now. It’s a new year and it’s still time to rock.
I’m Tim Gillette, the Rocker Life Coach. It’s time to live your dream, to love what you do and enjoy the journey. Are you ready to make 2013 rock?
