As we bring this great week of entrepreneur spirit to an end today, I want to bring up a fact that may be hard to take – especially if you have a 9-to-5 or a paycheck-to-paycheck mindset.
You see, to be a great entrepreneur and have that entrepreneur spirit, you are always willing to work on weekends. I have some of my greatest seminars on weekends. I love the learning I get in when I’m attending others’ events. If I’m speaking at someone else’s seminar, I’m still going to spend time listening to the other speakers and taking notes.
This weekend is not a time of relaxation. If you have the entrepreneur mindset you never stop thinking about creating a better world, a better life for yourself, a better family life. Most entrepreneurs are in better health because they are doing what they love. But those who think with just that paycheck mindset, I pity. Don’t get me wrong: I love to have days off, just not Saturday and Sunday.
Years ago, when I started in multi-level marketing businesses, we used to talk and share the idea that those we worked with during the week would look at us so funny when we said we could not go out to events or hang at the bar on Friday or Saturday night. They said we were crazy to work all the time.
I look at many of my Harley riding friends who love to take off on weekends and ride. Yes, there are times I like to ride, but for an entrepreneur who works hard and does not take weekends off now, the day comes when you can take weeks off to ride and work only on weekends.
This idea hit me hard when I was working for Starbucks and regularly worked weekend shifts. When I had a day off, it was normally during the week. I found I may not have had time to spend with all of my friends, but there are so many things you can do on weekdays also.
So this blog was not meant to talk about time off, but how the entrepreneur mind never sleeps. It is always working to create a better world. This weekend I will be working at the Dallas RockStar Life Seminar, showing people who want to live the RockStar life how to do it like I do.
I have great speakers and trainers coming from around the country to teach you how to get the money needed to build your business. And there will be some great training on how to set life up to enjoy and not let the things of the world keep you trapped.
I set life up so every day is good. Yes, I work weekends. But every day is a good day. As my massage therapist, who immigrated from Eastern Europe, tells me, “Every day in this country is a good one.” Or my most loved quote from Gene Simmons, “Every day above ground is a good day.”
I think of how lucky I am to have what I have, to share my life with the friends and family I do. Life just rocks and I say weekend are all just another day. Set your life up so every day is a good day and you will never have to look forward to a vacation or day off because you will enjoy the day you are in.
I’m Tim Gillette, the Rocker Life Coach. It’s time to live your dream, to love what you do and those you share life with. Build a life you enjoy every day and become the RockStar in your world.
