It’s the middle of the week of mentors. I’m arriving in Los Angeles today to be part of the great RockStar Marketing Boot camp hosted by yesterday’s mentor. Today we are going to talk about a mentor of mine who is behind the schooling I took to become a life coach. And the next two days are going to be devoted to people who inspired me to change my life – one of them is a great, well-known man who personally told me his opinion of what I was good at.

Today’s mentor I have yet to meet in person. I know her because she was a co-founder of the coaching program I went through to become a coach. I spent four years researching coaching programs and schools for coach training and the one school that kept coming back to me was the Coach Training Alliance out of Colorado. Its two founders are Will Craig and Rhonda Hess. After signing up for and attending the school, I was sent emails for many other programs to get my coaching business off the ground. One invitation I received was a special opportunity to hear Rhonda Hess on a Webinar.

From the early stages of listening to Rhonda’s webinar that day and listening to her CDs with schooling and training, it was Rhonda’s voice that sticks in my head; it’s a big part of who you find me to be today. I sent an email to Rhonda last week to let her know where she was placed in my roster of mentors. Her response is one of the things that makes her a great coach and mentor to all who want to become a coach. She told me, “I want you to tell people how things I told you helped to shape you as a coach.”

So today I really want to brag about how important Rhonda is to my growth. I’m going to stick to her request. Thanks to what she taught me I am able to help others learn to become great themselves. Maybe someday someone will be able to write how things they heard me say changed their business – just like Rhonda changed mine. There are three things that have been particularly important:

1.  Get your business online and find a web name that describes your business or who you are. I can still hear Rhonda’s voice on the CDs telling me these things at the end of the lesson that day I went to the web and started searching domain names. At first I found Rocker Coach; that sounded cool but it was not what I wanted to be known for – just being cool. So I found RockerLifeCoach.com. If you are reading this today, it is because of a tip from Rhonda to buy this domain and brand it as my business.

2.  I became a regular follower or the blog that Rhonda posts at Prosperouscoachblog.com. Not only do I own my .com domain name but also Rockerlifecoachblog.com. In one of her posts Rhonda, wrote about how coaches need a blog, not a web page. It was at that time I started blogging. I have built a regular habit of blogging to always share valuable information with people. Now many people come to me for help in getting their blogs up and going. It was Rhonda’s idea to always be giving value to attract people to you.

3.  Niche to be rich. Rhonda is famous in the coaching world for her many courses, but her theme as a coach is for you to build a small niche that works for you. Just last week at an event in Las Vegas, I was asked this question: “If someone is looking for a life coach should I send them to you?”  My answer to this came from my training with Rhonda about finding a niche. If you just want a life coach to deal with things in your life, I can show you a list of coaches who deal with small things. If you are sick of where you are at, if you want to change, if you need start over, I work to help you go from one of these places in life and create a life that is your RockStar dream. Rocker Life Coach is about building a life, living a RockStar dream. At the end of every blog I remind readers that it’s time to live your dream, to love what you do and those you share life with. Become the RockStar in your world.

I mentioned above that Rhonda and I have never met in person but as a coach, if you send her a personal email, she responds. In fact, one of the great things about my mentors list is I have not met all of them in person but, with one exception, I have talked to or exchanged emails with every one of the top five. These are personal leaders in the coaching industry yet no matter how big they get, they make every attempt to return messages. So in a nutshell, this is mentor number three for me. If you are a coach or if you have thought about being a coach go subscribe to Rhonda’s newsletter, and follow her blog, prosperouscoachblog.com.

I’m blushing, Tim! One of the things that makes you so successful is that you pass on your resources and mentors. There is no one like you and I love seeing how you “do business” in your own inimitable way. Many thanks for the kudos which I feel all belongs to you and your chutzpah! You got gumption!

And yet another honor, having your mentor comment on your blog. Thanks Rhonda for all you do. Rock on
