dudeIt is time to close out the week of good leadership. I think this is one of the greatest subjects, yet the hardest to write about. You see, leaderships is a tough subject to really stand out from the crowd on. So many write about leadership but the hard part is finding the great leaders.

When I started this idea a week ago, I made a post in my Facebook chat boards, looking for input from those I trust most. I heard from many people that they are looking to find good leaders in the world we live in and, like me, we are finding it harder and harder to find them.

My good friends, MaryAnn Ehmann and Carol Pilkington, wrote some things that really inspired me to write today’s post. Maryann wrote this:

“I follow those who are going where I want to go, so a good leader should clearly communicate in words or actions where that is.”

So to find that greatest leader, you must first know the direction you are headed. Many people want to scream for someone to lead them, yet they have not chosen where they want to go in life. We must have a clue where we want to go, a vision of what is good for our life then we choose the leader to get us there.

So that brings me to the second point I want to bring up, one that my friend Carol made. Carol posted this in our chat board:

“A good leader attracts not just followers but leaders in their own right that can contribute. Good leaders are not threatened by others.”

You see, good leaders are leading people who want to go somewhere. That is why first we must know where we want to go. In our world many times a leader is depicted as someone who tells us where we want to go, but this is not a good leader. A good leader is one who builds leaders.

When you have chosen where you want to go, then have followed the leader who can get you there, you, in turn, are formed into a leader. That is the most important thing I can teach you about leadership this week: Leaders create leaders.

So if you are looking for a good leader in life you must first have a direction you want to go; a good leader will then help you find a path, they will lead you until you become the leader.

And a good leader then becomes one of your best friends; this week I got a call from someone who is just that. A man who started off being a mentor to me, a phone call about some personal business we had to take care of together. He is teaching me to be my own leader.

That’s it for leadership. If you want to find the best leader in the world, they are the ones creating leaders. Watching the leaders they helped create change the world and lead in the direction they intended. A leader is helping people carry out their purpose in life.  Go and lead.
