Good Tuesday morning to you. I am riding back home to Texas today, looking forward to being back in my comfort zone. It’s great to travel like I do, but nothing beats being at home. One of the things I was able to see while I was out here was the start of the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge. They have it set up online to watch and monitor the riders who are in this challenge through a satellite tracking device each bike is carrying. Watching it online and seeing what is going on, as well as knowing some of the people riding in it, gives me a great view of the game.

Watching this game, or challenge is just like watching your favorite football team on Sunday. Some are able to watch from the stadium, sitting in the stands, or on the sidelines watching as one team will win and another will lose. Some are watching it from the comfort of their living rooms, on a home TV set. Others watch on TV but at a local sports bar, or at a party with friends. No matter where you watch, you cannot affect the results. You have to be a player in the game to do that.

This week we are talking about time and how time affects our lives. I was thinking while watching this challenge from my computer in a comfortable seat how those people who are in the race can’t see the big picture of their challenge. As I’m watching it, I get to see the whole race from high above and I know what the results look like from here. Just like those Super Bowl games that seem so mismatched with one team way out ahead of the other, in this case there are a few bikers way ahead of the others. But does it mean that those who are at the back are going to lose?

When those two football teams are playing they have four quarters of play. They get a break at halftime and return to their different locker rooms. Sometimes a great speech or game plan given by the coach in that locker room changes the rest of the game. You see, they learn from how the other team is playing that day. Then they make the corrections needed to become a winning team by the end of the fourth quarter. My hometown NBA team, the Dallas Mavericks, proved that time and again in the post season as they came back from large deficits to get a win because they learned from the teams they were playing and made adjustments.

Right now, as I’m watching this challenge, the riders who are way ahead may ultimately be the winning team, or they may be setting themselves up for failure. As I always say in my seven steps to being a RockStar, you must first observe the situation. Those who are wearing themselves out in the beginning, may not be ready when those who reserved their power for the last half of the game begin to catch up to them. The difference in the Hoka Hey Challenge is those riders don’t know who is ahead of them or behind them. They don’t know how far away the other riders are. They are all on bikes unable to view TVs or computers to see where the other riders are.

We only have a limited amount of time on this earth. You need to be playing your own game starting from the first quarter. You need to define your wining plan to define the success you want from your life. You need to never give up on that challenge until the buzzer sounds and the game is over.

Today, take this to your life, no matter what challenges you are facing. It’s time to live for today in your life. Those who give up will live with regret for a long time. It may seem like you are losing. If you got to see your life on the big screen it may show others are far ahead of you. Do not compare your life to them; only time will tell how you finish this race.

My challenge to you today is to look at the time you have spent so far. Determine what quarter in life you are on. Is it time for you to make some brave moves? Do you need to take a risk or two to get back on track?  Have you observed what is going on around you to see what it will take to pull you ahead of your game? Are you truly living your own game? It’s time to live your own game.
