This past weekend while flipping among the movie channels, I came across a show about the Eagles. You remember the band don’t you? I could use so many things for Rock ‘n’ Roll business growth from the show, and from the story of the band itself.
While watching it, I was thinking, “What would I do as a theme for next week’s blog?” There were so many different things I wanted to do as a weekly theme and I have outlines of new programs that I am working on for this coming year. Yet I want to get back to crazy ideas that make people think. So I decided to do a week of inspiration and growth and we’re going to do that with something crazy like what I learned from the Eagles about being successful.
Today we are starting with the song title, “Take It To the Limit,” a song from their fourth album. (Boy that shows my age, the word “album.”) If you ever listened to the lyrics of Eagles songs, you know Don Henley and Glenn Frey have been a powerful song-writing team over the years.
In this week of seeking business lessons from many aspects of The Eagles’ career, the words to this song, as many others, have one of those “hit-me” spots. The line is, “I’ve always been a dreamer, and it’s so hard to change.”
I think about my life, my business ventures over the years, how I have become an entrepreneur and nothing seems to change about that. I have always been a dreamer. It was during the past year that I started pushing things to the limit; now I am watching some changes in life.
Watching the Eagles’ story impressed on me the idea of where I am meant to be. I think of so many of their songs that have a great sound, a great story, and great lyrics. I want to say it’s hard to pick a favorite. But the theme of the show is how they just kept trying new things.
In your life or business, as an entrepreneur you must always be trying new things. So many times I see from music to business to many other areas, we look for a pattern then build comfort from doing the same thing over and over again. We need to always be pushing our limits to find and try new things.
So take this as Lesson Number One from The Eagles. You need to push your dream to the limit. Once you find a level of success, it’s time to look higher and seek to reach the next level. To soar like an eagle and take it to the limit, one more time.
I’m Tim Gillette, the Rocker Life Coach. It’s time to live your dream, to love what you do and those you share life with. Are you ready to take it to the limit in 2013 and make it rock?
