It’s finally over; we have selected a president for the next 4 years. The votes have been cast, the loser has made the call and the winner has taken the stage. I hope you cast your vote and I hope that you voted for whom you wanted.

Now I know you who read my daily posts are not the ones who caused me to do this, but finally I was able to turn on my Facebook notifications again. I can now read my Twitter account again. Why, you ask? Over the past few weeks I was getting sick of reading the posts about who was the better candidate. And reading really ugly things about who was a bad choice. (Turns out, according to my Facebook and Twitter friends, both of the main candidates were the better candidate and both of them were a bad choice!)

I know everyone is happy with the choice of president. I know no one on here will complain about the job he is doing for the next four years since the votes have been cast. I know no one will be talking about it anymore. Not.

Of course I know that it did not end. For now, at least, some people will now post even more about what is going on in politics. I know you are all wondering why we are talking about this in a week dedicated to improving now. Now you probably think I’m going to talk about change and the president.

Maybe you have read the name of the post and think I’m going to tell you that I’m sick of those talking about politics. Well, it’s in our nature and it is going to be part of the world we are in from now on with the transparency we have on the internet.

Well let’s talk about what happens. Many people are just talking about what they feel is the right choice. We think by yelling or TYPING IN CAPS that people will see our way of thinking and say we are right.

I want to teach you something today about the importance of how you are talking about things. The way I make a difference in a person’s life, the way anyone in the coaching, speaking, or blogging business can make a difference, is by talking about those things we can do something about.

You see, while we all have heart in how we feel the politics of our land should be, let’s face it, you can cast your vote and send a letter to your congressman or your senator; but that’s about it. I feel talking about something we can do nothing about is like the man who sits on his couch yelling at his TV set when his team fumbles the ball on Sunday football.

The other way I feel about people talking about something they can do nothing about is what the good Christian church ladies call “gossip.” You see when we talk about something we cannot change, all we are doing is gossiping.

I want to give you a challenge. I want you to make this change in your life — change what you are talking about; make it so that you only can discuss something if you can provide a solution that can be used. If you have no way to solve the problem, then vow to yourself: “I will not talk about it from now on.” Promise me that.
