Think back to when you were five to seven years old. Can you remember back that far? Many who read this, who are facing the wantrepreneur struggle, just cannot remember their youth, not that far back in youth to the age of five.

I would mention the teen years, but that is where the fear set in that we mentioned yesterday. You see, so many can’t get back to that point before the fear. Maybe you should talk to a group of 5- to 10-year-olds and ask them how they would solve some of those tough things you struggle with.

I am reminded of the story of the man who was talking with his wife one night about how they were struggling with money. They wanted to plan the family vacation but it was just not possible. The husband said, “I just can’t see it happening; we have no money to pay the bills let alone make that trip to Disney this year.”

Their young 5-year-old son comes out from his bedroom with his small piggy bank, hands it to his dad and tells him, “Here, Daddy. You can have my money to pay the bills.”

You see, for the 5-year-old, the idea of money is still not a challenge to him; he still sees things he can do and will find a way to do things that we might think are impossible. So many times I hear stories of the little kids with dreams, talking of the many things they plan on doing. They have not yet been stopped by the fear. They don’t have the fear that the money will not be there to start it or that, once started, the money will run out.

Many are reading this today and thinking I’m going to tell you that the money is there, that I found it and so can you. It reminds me of the wise man I used to sit and talk with many years ago after cleaning his cars each week. He told me everyone has one of two money problems: either not enough, or worry about who is going to take what they have.

Money is the biggest barrier that keeps dreams from happening. Yes, we have faced and continue to face the same money issues as so many others do. Many times we acted on faith and took steps knowing the money would come, but we still had to sweat the loan payments.

There are so many ways to get money, which is why at most of our seminars and workshops we have people who teach how to find money to make dreams happen. From Jason Nast sharing the stories of crowd funding and how it’s working to help people get that edge to get started; to Roberto Candelaria sharing the idea of sponsorship to get your event or tour started.

Money is a topic that could be a long blog post, but with the small space here we only touched on it briefly today. So what I challenge you to do is have a chat with some kids about their dreams to help you remember back to when you had dreams and no fear. Ask a group of you boys or girls under the age of 12 what they would do to change the world, or what their dreams are. Use this to get your thinking cap going again.

Maybe it’s time to get help finding that feeling of hope you had when you were young. Coaches help you think of those things you can’t seem to find on your own; they help you find the confidence to overcome the fear.
