Good Monday morning, hope your weekend was a good one. I want to start off this week of rock lessons with a story about a band that didn’t want to do a song but did it anyway. They decided to make fun of their producers and make the worst possible version of the song they could to show them it was a bad idea. Turns out that “bad idea” made them into a legend.
In the early 1980s a band that was over five years old, but which had had very little recording success, was in the studio making a recording. They were given one more song to record that had already been done by another band. They thought it was a bad idea; they didn’t want to do it. So they decided to record to and make it sound horrible, raunchy, make fun of the song, to show everyone it was a bad idea. The very first cut of the recording was what the record producers put on the album. Do you want to know what happened? For the band “Quiet Riot” the song became the first ever heavy metal song to break the top10 on the Pop chart. The album became the first heavy metal album to make number one. The time frame this happened in was immediately after another legend happened to be top album of all time. That would be: Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
So what is the Rock ‘n Roll lesson? How many times has a “bad” idea been given to you by the consultant you have hired, your well-meaning friend, a business associate and you just said “No” and didn’t do it? What would happen if you actually did what the guys from Quiet Riot did and just gave it a try, but did it with your own flair?
I started to think a lot about other ideas for making my business work, taking things in different directions. First if you told me a year ago that I was going to have this very blog you are reading, I would not have believed it. It was an idea that a mentor of mine in the coaching industry suggested, but I was uncertain about it. The idea that I have themes each week was another suggestion from my business partner. The idea of our email coaching program was suggested by another coach as a way to help those who could not afford coaching, but needed it more than ever.
I’ve just shared with you how I introduced several small ideas to make my business a success – some of which weren’t my ideas and didn’t seem that good when I first heard them. I want to know something that had been suggested to you to try that you have not done because you didn’t think it was a good idea. Will you actually sit down right now and take a chance? Write out five ways to make those crazy ideas work to make your dream, or business stronger or better. Then email them to me. The best plan out of all the emails that I receive will receive three free months of email coaching.
Do you think you have a great idea that would make my business work better? Then here is a chance to suggest it. Write your suggestion in the comment box below. I look forward to your crazy ideas.
