Welcome to another great day in this wonderful life I get to live. I hope that today you have found something to be joyful and excited about. I am excited to introduce you to a new friend of mine. In this week of RockStar friends it’s time to share one of the shocking friendships that I have now.
While at the RockStar Marketing Boot Camp, I met many people. Life has brought me so many friendships just because I stuck my hand out and said hello. But imagine, as we spoke of yesterday, how our attitude makes a big difference in what we take from every encounter we face. Today I’m going to show you how an image of someone could totally be opposite of who they really are.
While at the boot camp, one of the people I met was an advertiser who had a vendor table. He is one of the great speaker-trainers in this country and the he comes from Canada. When I first looked at him, my initial impression wasn’t positive. His advertisement and the look he gave made it seem to me like he was one of those off-the-wall –- I’ll say the word — “Ass holes.” That was my impression of him; I walked by his table and didn’t speak to him because that is what I thought he was from the other side of the room.
Martin Presse is one of the best trainers in getting the point of your message across as a speaker. With his book, “The Booya Guide to Great Public Speaking,” with his workshops and books and presentations, he shows you how to speak with impact.
Back to my story of meeting him. Finally, I was walking past his table and he reached out to me and said, “Hi.” I stopped but was just being nice at first; still, I was holding onto what was my bad attitude. After five minutes of speaking with him, though, we became close friends. As I said on Sunday, I hope to have all of these people on my stage someday. Martin was quick to say to me, “Man I want you to be on my show,” and now we are talking about things we could do together.
As the week went on many times we would end up hanging out in the many after-hour parties. With my tight schedule I am looking forward to making it to one of Martin’s workshops this year and I hope he can make one of mine. He is definitely not what I thought him to be; far from it. And he has an impact on all he comes in contact with. I was quick to jump in and help him packing up his table, working to sell his books for him so he could talk to people who came up.
So many of us will pass up great meetings because we have formed a bad opinion of a person who ultimately would work to complement us. We will put off meeting someone who could be the missing piece of the puzzle in our life or business because of a word said, or even a look. Appearance is something my friend Catherine Hatcher is always talking to me about. But for the most part we need to look past those sometime and meet the great person on the other side of the first impression.
I want to promote Martin’s radio show on the toginet.com radio network. He hosts a show every week on Tuesdays at 9:00 pm eastern time. If you ever want to get your point across to a crowd in speaking, let Martin show you how. I am working on getting him to the Texas area to put on one of his workshops for those who are close to me. You can also check out his web page at http://martinpresse.com/. It gives me a completely different image when I hear the word “Booya” now.
Come back tomorrow to meet someone who really made an impact and gave me some great ideas that will be seen on my blog in a few weeks.
