Modern Wisdom

Did you ever notice that, as we get older, we seem to have the mindset that things only work the way we did them in the old days? It makes me think back to the words that my grandmother would say “Back in my day…” You know, I’ll bet I heard that same line from my mom. I know many people from the different churches I have attended who have said that.
Now this post is not about how I walked to school uphill both ways in the snow. It’s not about telling you the only way to find wisdom is listening to what the Bible tells us, because it contains the only true wisdom.
In our modern world, so many things are now getting out of whack — like the shooting in Colorado a few weeks back. I recall hearing about it for the first time. My wife and I were at a McDonald’s, on a road trip and it came on the TV. We have somewhat differing opinions on guns and some of our differences come from differences in how we were raised and where. My first reaction was one of the “back in my day,” or more like the way my father raised me. Our wisdom was built on our beliefs.
Then last week we saw the big debate over the gay marriage issue, and the statements made by the president of Chick-Fil-A. As I watched that entire thing go down, my thoughts are not “back in my day.” Now we are on a page where I see things much differently than most of my Christian brothers and sisters see them.
Now, before many of you think I have gone crazy in this idea today of modern wisdom, I want you to know I still have some old-fashioned ideas. I’m not watching the Kardashians to see what they are up to or how Beavis and Butthead would handle some of today’s problems.
The foundation of my successful system for helping my clients is based on something that most coaches and trainers are not teaching: the idea that rock music can give us a message to change our lives for the better; the fact that we could actually learn things from watching a movie.
Some of the people I follow online when I look for advice are modern and more relaxed in their ways. They seem to have a calm approach to life and don’t let things get to them or bother them in ways that the issues of the past few weeks have.
One of my favorite movies from the ‘90s would be The Big Lebowski. It’s a movie about a man who just wants to get by and not make any waves. The great online marketer, Frank Kern, gave me some great insight, saying that I do not need to have an old fashioned job to make a living; that I do not have to scam people just to make money or get rich.
Modern wisdom would say you need to put together your own thoughts on the many things you must deal with every day. I write these posts each day and create new training to help people grow as individuals. To become a better entrepreneur, I teach that you have to create your own world.
Even I have to watch; I have taken coaching and training from experts who have solid systems. They teach ways that have worked for them but when I apply that to my life and business it does not work. You are going to have to find out what advice to take and what you need to ignore. Our world is changing and you must get ready for it.
My modern words of wisdom today are: RockStars make their own rules. Create your rules, create your own wisdom. Learn what to use and what to get rid of. Make your world better for you and your family and live your dream. If it’s something others can learn from then share your wisdom. Teach others how to do the same. That, my friends, is modern wisdom.
