I live on a lake and I get to watch all the ducks and ducklings pass by our dock. Today I was thinking about how many things I could add to this week on the topic of struggles. I walked out to my deck and looked at the water; along came two older ducks. They look like they are just gliding on by.
Then come two very young ducklings — not babies, just very young. They seemed to be gliding along, but one thing looked different about them. Their heads and necks were moving. You could tell by the way their heads were moving that they were paddling under the water and it looked like work. Then I ran down to the dock with my camera to take a picture, just in time to catch the two older ones.
When we were young, handling all the struggles we had could seem to take up so much of our effort. We worked hard just to make sure everything fit into the right place. Maybe you are still struggling, you are working and working and you just like those young ducks were – like you’re working very hard, not like it’s effortless.
I’ve reached the point in my life that I just glide along and everyone thinks that I have no struggles. Well, it can be taken back to this lesson from the older ducks. They are going through the same motions as the younger, the feet are moving really fast under the water, but on top you think it’s a smooth ride.
In our lives or business we are always going to have the struggles; things are always going to be pulling us down. You will always have to do some work to keep life moving; that is just a fact. But you will learn to make it seem like it’s no problem; you will be like the older duck just gliding along looking cool like you naturally belong in the water moving this way.
Today take a lesson from the ducks, no matter what happens, just keep moving along. You will have the attitude of, “it’s all good” and others will never know those struggles are there.
Even in my hardest times I always worked like the duck under the surface. I was paddling my heart out to keep moving. Above the surface it was calm smooth and easy. How are you going to use this today to move you past your struggles in life?
