So we are on day two of our vacation and while walking around yesterday, I learned something from watching the business others do. As an entrepreneur, you always watch to see what the systems are for other entrepreneurs.
It was in the late 1980s that I bought my first self-help or training program. It was about how to buy real estate. I could not tell you that ideas or techniques were used in that program that helped me build my current real estate business. But I can tell you I waited with fear to act on the knowledge I had gained.
Yesterday, I spent time watching the process at several wineries in the area as well as at the burger joint where we ate lunch. They all seemed to have a process that included some kind of marketing; some of them had a better customer service process that helped them sell and relate better to those people who visit from around the world.
I thought back to that program that I purchased in the 1980s and I remember one thing that was taught back then that applies to all the businesses I have worked in. The author of that program made a statement that sticks:
To be successful at anything in life, you need two things: (1) a system; and (2) discipline to work that system.
That is the one thing that makes every entrepreneur successful: they all find a system that works for them and they either develop their own discipline to make that system grow or they hire the proper staff to make that it grow.
Even this week I spent an hour on the phone with those helping to make our next November event a huge success. It is a team effort and it is doing exactly what I said above: helping to make a system that works work for us all. Just because you take a vacation, it does not mean that you stop looking for other ways to find success.
Remember my guest on the radio show a few weeks back, Tiki Kev? Kevin was on vacation when he saw the beauty of a tiki bar. It made such an impact on him that he found out how to build them. Then he created a system when he got back from vacation so he could successfully build them himself and make a prosperous business of it.
So where are you visiting on a daily basis that could teach you success in life? You don’t have to be on vacation to find solutions or new ideas; it could be while you are out in the town you live in. You never know when you will find something that will help you make an improvement to your system. Just make sure you don’t miss it; never stop looking to improve.
