When it comes to quotes and stories about failure, one of the best is today’s quote from Michael Jordan. He’s a man who can talk about failure because he has experienced more failures than many.
I can accept failure; everyone fails at something. But I cannot accept not trying. ~Michael Jordan
We all want to be told it’s OK when we fail. We want others to just make us feel good again. We want to lie inside that failure and we use the excuse of failure to not get back up.
One of the driving points in my life has been the many places I have met people like this in all my travels over the years. It’s a common story you hear of the high school sports star who had early success and fame. Once high school or college days were done, they hit a wall of failure, from injuries to not making the next level of team.
When many people hit the wall of failure in one area, they think life is over. But it’s not; they must turn to another area and start over, recreate themselves again. Many of the successful athletes from days past do this. They move to coaching or TV announcer, maybe actor. The list goes on.
They let the problems of life get them down, things like the loss of a family member or close friend. If you recall, Michael Jordan stepped away from playing basketball when he lost his father. After some time away, he attempted to play baseball, went back to basketball, and he has been in commercials and acted in movies.
No matter what it is you are facing right now, if your business or dream is not working the way you want it to, the only way to change that is get back up and TRY again when you get knocked down.
What are you facing right now that you just can’t seem to step over and get past? What are you doing to make that next step? What will you try to do next? Those who become the biggest success stories are the ones who faced the worst problems and said, “Let me try this instead.”
When you hit a wall, start looking for the door, window, or edge of the wall to get around it. If you cannot find the door, the window, or edge of the wall, start climbing to get over it.
Time for action. What are you going to do today to change your situation? If you failed today promise me you will get up and try again.
