worldSo I had this great blog post already written and waiting for editing. Then I realized there was something else this week that I wanted to cover. It’s like the old Garth Brooks song he did live. He talked about the process of getting the song written, recorded and distributed to record stores. “It’s then you hear it and realize the mistake,” he said.
You see I was all focused on the leadership theme this week and forgot what today is, and what yesterday was. I was working so hard the past few weeks with my New Year focus of writing and planning that I missed the party.
Last night was the state of the union address. While many were home watching TV to see it, so many others are out celebrating Mardi Gras, the last big party before 40 days of austerity. That would mean today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the season of Lent.
I was thinking more about the Pope resigning and the fact that Easter is a little more than a month away. This makes me wonder about what is going on in the Pope’s life that he chose this time to step down.
The idea of Lent is something that I have never really studied; it was not until the past few years I even focused on it. I have heard the idea of fasting and praying to help prepare one for the Holy holiday of Easter.
Today I wanted to use it for a thought on leaders. In my years of teaching on mentorship and creating a better business and life for oneself, I have learned that at times we must remove some things from life that hinder us from the success we want.
If you are working to develop leadership skills in life maybe this is a time to look at what really is holding you back from being a stronger leader. It is Lent and maybe you need to consider fasting or other form of self-denial in some area to see if it is holding you back in your life and business. Lent is actually about preparing yourself for Easter; sometimes that means self-denial and sometimes it means other things like working harder in certain areas or becoming more contemplative.
Last night I was listening to my good friends Mordant and Charles on The Success Freaks Podcast. They asked the question, “What would you do if you had to take a period of time away from the Internet? Could you do it?” (For the record, I only recommend this if the exceptions are made to read this blog and listen to the Tim Gillette Radio Show !)
But think of it. Is there something in your life that you rely on so much it stops you from becoming the leader you are meant to be? As we enter the season of Lent, take time this year to think about being a leader. If you need to clean house in any way to become a leader that you could be, make this a time to do it.
