I have shared many times the issues that I have faced over the years; not keeping secrets from those I am close to always keeps me moving. I loved the concern I received this past week from a new client about it.
For more than 10 years, or maybe longer (it’s been so long I stopped keeping track), I have suffered from depressing thoughts. Yes, many times I want to give up. We are not just talking business here; it’s life I think about giving up.
One of the many things I have written and spoken about was how the movie, A Beautiful Mind has inspired me over the years. When I wake up on those days and do not feel like living, when I do not feel like pressing on, I make the choice in my head that I will find a way to make it. I will find a way to succeed.
You see, most people have never thought of just ending it all. Some have thought about it but, thankfully, never go through with it. Suicide is a serious problem in out world; so many see no hope and just want to end it.
Well what is the difference between a person who wants to end life, and a person who just wakes up on day and tells themselves, “This job is not worth it; I’m going to quit.” Or they could have a business and say, “This is not working anymore,” and just set a path to end the business or walk away.
While the problem of suicide is something that we all would worry about with the human mind, we seem to forget many people succeed every day at committing business suicide. They give up on their dreams, they submit to just maintaining and being content with whatever the world gives in leftovers.
I want to encourage you to find hope in your business. At one time this small business you started gave such joy in your heart. You could not wait to get up and get started; you could not wait to get it to a level where you could work this dream every day.
Yes the road may be hard right now, but think of the many people who went through so much more than you and are now successful. I sit and think sometimes of all the times that Thomas Edison attempted to design a successful light bulb. More than 10,000 of them failed before he made the first one that worked.
What is so hard in your world that you are thinking of giving up that dream business you created? What is the hurdle you are trying to get over now? Consider coming to one of our live events and get around some people who are dreamers again. Join a mastermind group of people who can give you ideas to solve some of the issues you are facing. That worked for many of those who attended my recent monthly mastermind.
