As the world turns, we all will, hopefully, learn the lessons we need. For some of us it will be sooner, for others later. My wish and my goal is to help as many people as possible realize important life lessons while life is showing it to them the first time. Nothing is more frustrating in life than to repeat a mistake five times before you learn something from it. Many times in my own life I have traveled to that other side of the fence and back looking for the greener grass of life, only to find out that had I started a plan to invest in and water my own grass I could have saved myself many times of flip-flopping back and forth.
A few years ago someone told me of a song I needed to apply to my life. It was called, “No More Looking Over My Shoulder.” This was a good sign to me that I had spent way too much time in my past going from side to side of an issue, with no plan in my life and wondering why I was going nowhere.
In your life, are you going from plan to plan looking for that golden goose to lay an egg that will make all of your problems get better? Well, you have to make some investments into your own life to make that happen. A few years ago I heard the sermon from my Pastor John about the cycle of life (or the cycle of church attendance, as he put it). We enter into a new plan, new path. Maybe it’s because you who started another new business or idea. Maybe you have started over at another job because the last one did not work out. This is a great example of chasing the green grass on the other side of the fence.
When we start out, things are looking great and this place is the best and no wrong could come from it. You are loving life at this point. Your most recent lust has come to being and you’re happy. Well, time goes by and soon you find out that you must actually put some work into this, as it has a few flaws in it. You find a few people you don’t want to work with, or there is that certain task you don’t want to do. At this point you have a fork in the road. Some will head off and start a new project, look for another job, etc. Or you could dig in, make a plan to improve your situation, set some goals and do the work that is needed to make this project the successful one.
The second choice is almost always the one you are supposed to take and if you find yourself in this position often then it’s a sure thing that hopping around again isn’t the right answer. I know many of those other jobs you had on the back burner just seemed like the solution to your problem. I’ll tell you the secret. They have the same challenge once you get in and start to work. So face the problem here, make a plan to make this project or job successful. Define your goals and start working. Once you have made it past this you will find you have become a more valuable asset to your company or any company that will hire you in life.
How is this investing in your future, you may ask? Well, let’s say you want to someday have your own business, maybe become self-employed like we are. You are going to face many more problems than whatever you may be facing now. Those people who find a solution to whatever they are facing are the ones that will build those successful companies.
Years ago it was easy to start your own business. Banks were loaning money and investors were jumping on all kinds of ideas. Since our economy has gone down, it has become harder. In the world of business, those who are stronger are the ones who will make it. It’s those who invested in learning how to take a the projects they were given, water it, get the tools to make the ground a better place and plant the proper seed, with the proper water system and placing the water on the seeds at the proper time. That is how you would get the grass to grow.
In business it could be having the right software to make you computer work for your company, the right staff with the best education to handle the issues that will come up. The right marketing plan, the proper channels to reach that market. Then having the ways to get your product to the users in a timely fashion with a reasonable price, all while still making a profit to keep you ahead in your game.
So today, what challenge have you faced more than once in anything in your past? Have you made back and forth moves to try to avoid something? Put together a list of what you have avoided in your personal, business, relationships today. Now really search to find the tools that will help you get past those things that you must move past. If you find the problem is in you, what can you do to change it? There is a solution to make your world work for you. Start making a plan to invest in your future. Start with what we always say when starting over: pray and meditate, then clean out and plan new goals. If you need help with this process, now is the time for you to schedule a coaching session.
