He shows individuals and organizations the unexpected keys to clarity—the ultimate leverage point for creating more time, making better decisions and getting meaningful results. Jamie is a gifted speaker, equally engaging in front of large audiences or more intimate groups. He’s passionate about helping individuals and businesses deepen their understanding of Innate Thinking® and to create the results that matter to them. He has appeared on Sky TV and on the BBC, as well as in numerous publications.

Yesterday, Jamie visited Therese Skelly at happyinbusiness.com, where they talked about mindset, intuition, and selling qualities for a successful business.

Today, I’d like to share with you a recent podcast interview I had with Jamie when I got to ask him some questions on the subject of the mind.

——-

Tim Gillette: More and more we are hearing we need to be normal or fit into some niche to have peace in our lives. Could you explain how being authentic in who you are could help bring clarity?

Jamie Smart: The only thing that ever prevents us having peace of mind is superstitious thinking; the mistaken belief that we’re feeling something other than thought in the moment. Peace of mind can only ever come from one place: inside you. We’re always feeling our thinking, and peace of mind is a sign that we’ve got peaceful thinking; that our minds aren’t filled with superstitious, outside-in thinking.

When we get caught up in our superstitious thinking, it creates feelings of separateness, isolation and anxiety. Conformity, trying to fit in and be like everyone else, is one of the ways people try to quell those feelings of isolation and anxiety, but it comes at the cost of our authenticity.

But here’s the thing: feelings of anxiety and isolation only come from one place (thinking) and feelings of peace and connection only come from one place (thinking). As you see this more and more deeply, it frees you to embrace your authentic desires. Clarity and authenticity are inevitable as you see through the outside-in misunderstanding, and wake up to the inside-out nature of life.  And the great thing about that is this:

Your authentic desires are a natural expression of who you really are, and a “compass” that guides you in living your most fulfilling, inspiring life.

Tim Gillette: How important do you feel being creative is in both business and personal life today?

Jamie Smart: The ability to create is one of our “deep drivers,” and of profound importance when it comes to creating a business, creating relationships and creating the experiences we want in our lives. “Creativity” is often associated with brainstorming sessions, advertising agencies and “soft” skills, but consider this…

Every great business is the result of an act of creation (think Apple, Amazon, eBay, Zappos)

And it’s not just businesses… Great relationships, great experiences and great lives are all the result of this innate creative ability.

Stop for a moment and reflect on some of the things and experiences you’ve brought into your life so far. You may not think of them as being examples of creativity, but they are.

Our ability to create is an expression of the creative potential behind life, the very thing that got us each here in the first place. Trees bearing fruit, creatures being born, organisms growing and developing. Life is bursting with creativity, and that creative potential is what each of us is made of. It’s what creates great businesses, great relationships and great lives.

So it’s worth embracing it!

Tim Gillette: Could you explain the eight deep drivers behind being a successful leader and entrepreneur?

Jamie Smart: The eight deep drivers are expressions of “innate thinking”, the principles that are creating our experience of life, moment to moment. We’re each born with the deep drivers; they’re behind how we learned to walk and talk. The only thing that ever blocks us from these drivers is “superstitious thinking”; the mistaken belief that we’re feeling something other than thought (e.g. bills, clients, our past, our future, other people, etc).

The eight deep drivers are:

– Direction: A sense of purpose, motivation and direction.

– Creativity: The source of innovation, solutions and fresh new approaches.

– Connection: The ability to connect with others and build strong relationships.

– Authenticity: Being true to yourself.

– Presence: Present, aware and available to the moment.

– Resilience: The source of persistence, agility and mental toughness.

– Intuition: An inner source of wisdom, guidance and gut feel.

– Clarity: Peace of mind, insight and a close alignment with current reality.

These deep drivers are innate. There’s nothing you need to “do” to activate them. They emerge naturally when there’s nothing in the way. And the only thing that ever gets in the way is superstitious thinking. As you deepen your understanding of Innate Thinking®, you’ll find yourself “seeing through” superstitious thinking more and more, and waking up to the inside-out nature of life. And as you do, you’ll find the eight deep drivers emerging (and the entrepreneurial leadership attributes that come with them) emerging naturally.
