indexIt has been a rough past few days. I’ve been doing lots of thinking. I made the mistake of watching too many news clips and reading too many stories about what is going on with all the talk over Friday’s tragic events in Newtown, CT. The doom and gloom people who have been reading end of the world predictions into the situation are especially upsetting for me. I’m also struggling with those who post things on Facebook walls and social media sites about how so many things are wrong with our world.

I find it tough today to get this post written. I wonder, has it just gotten this bad over the past few years? Or is it, as my wife believes, that we hear more because our world is so connected with the social sites we are on and the many news channels we have?

We all say we want to head back to a day when the world was more innocent; we long for those days when we were children again. I think of when I was a child how I dreamed the world would be when I grew up. I must say that I did not see some of the things that we see when I was just dreaming.

I teach and encourage my clients and students to dream. I believe in dreams; it is those with dreams who create a better world for us to live in. But we all must be ready for reality to hit.

We are going to face those times when things go wrong, when it would be so much easier to just have the world end. But even when that dream or vision we had comes to a place of ending, we should still not give up.

I still believe that if you are breathing and able, you still have a purpose on this earth and must get back up and find out one of two things: (1) can you fix this dream that crashed; or, if you are to close these doors, (2) can you learn from the experience and move forward with a new dream?

In 1998 when my business and life crashed on the east coast, I picked up, not knowing if I was going to be working in the same field or another for the rest of my life. I took the options that were planted in front of me and started working towards them. Less than four years later I was opening another business very similar to what I had had, but in a different state. This time I had much more wisdom to make this one better.

Whatever it is that makes you feel the world is ending, you must get back up. Take it one step at a time and watch how miracles could happen in your life. The end is only as you know it, the beginning that is about to start is up to you having hope in tomorrow.  What will you do? What have you learned from this? Can we make this world better?
