It’s a short week and it’s Friday. I loved sharing this week with you. Working with people and seeing them create ideas is what I love most. I can sit at my computer and come up with lots of ideas in a matter of time. It’s one of those things that an entrepreneurial mind just does.
So last night we wanted to stay home and watch a movie on demand on our cable system. We chose to watch a movie we had seen in the theater last year, The Social Network. That story told about the building of FaceBook. I was able to watch it with my critic side yesterday since I’ve seen it before and I saw a lot of little things that just seemed to escape me in the theater. But, hey, I know the story now. I’ve seen it before as well as read the news stories that have come out about the true story.
My partner and I were able to see some sides of my personality in the movie and discuss how I am the person who gets so focused on my work sometimes that I could miss something she said when walking into my office. It got me to think more about my focus and our topic this week.
One of the things I noticed was how Mark was just working on building the site, not sure what he had yet but working one building it. Then on the other side was his friend Eduardo, the early financing guy, who wanted to look for advertising and getting the business making money as all our businesses should do. But it made me think about how many times I have created a business and had a quick profit and then how some of them took a dive in income after a short period of time. This is one of the reasons in life that I have become so good at rebuilding things. A quick idea is great to get you started, but wouldn’t it be cool to start there and build something that was lasting?
So we went through this week with some quick ideas on how you could start some things. What you need to do is work with the small capital you have to build something lasting. Many great ideas got lost by some people who cashed in way too early. My Dad told me once when starting a business that I should not buy the fancy things in life every time I get a $100 in my pocket. Yes, I do some things that push me to do more, to stretch myself, to act in faith. But when doing those things they are working towards a goal, not just a selfish, immediate, self-satisfying, feel-good-for-the-moment thing.
So we as a team are building a long-term business. I am working days and sometimes all night at writing, making calls and sending emails to set up appointments for the future of my company. I want to see this grow to a status that changes people for the better.
So, maybe you read this blog on a daily basis looking for just another idea to make $1000 more a month or maybe it’s just $100 a week to pay on your credit cards. I tell you that you need to make that as your starting point.
Years ago when working in multilevel marketing, many people got started to pay just a few more bills off, but ended up building something larger so they could have a better lifestyle. I say start with a small business and invest in your future, grow it. Moneywise, put away about half of it to invest in other business ideas. Ideawise, once you have learned you can accomplish something, use your mind to think of ways you could use that same concept to grow as a person, grow as a man, grow as a woman, grow as a dad, or mom, or best friend.
We get one chance in this life, and it’s a “learn as you go” process. In my life I took the idea many years ago that I cannot fail, each time I don’t achieve what I set out to do, I consider it a great learning tool to make things better the next time. And let me tell you I’ve had many educational points in my life.
So with another weekend here, what are you going to do to start thinking and working towards your dream? This week I hope that you learned some things you could do to start. But once you start making a side business with your life, stop and write down an ideal life. And start setting your goals to make that happen. Have a great weekend that Rocks.
