So many statements can be made about how to build success from the failures we have been through. I loved the statement that successful people build houses with the bricks that are thrown at them.
I’ve come to believe that all my past failures and frustrations were actually laying the foundation for the understandings that have created the new level of living I now enjoy. ~Tony Robbins.
When I read that quote from Tony Robbins, it gave me a vision first of his success now and second of the path he took in life. You see, when most of us see someone who is enjoying success, we forget to think about what they went through to get to that point.
So many of us want the good in life, we want the success. But we are not willing to pay the price of success. The price of failure is much more costly but we cannot see that in our want-it-now world.
As I was traveling up to a networking function last night, I passed several bus stops and watched the eyes of a woman who was waiting for the bus. For a minute I thought she might be wishing she could get somewhere faster like I was.
Then I thought back to seven years ago when I was the one sitting at that bus stop, watching people go and wishing I could get where I needed to go with a vehicle and not have to wait for the bus.
The fact that I enjoy the place I am in today makes me think of those years I waited to get here. I think of the struggle, of the hard times, the failures and falling backwards. It helps me to remember those struggles now when I work to get back up.
In my motivational list of songs is one by Miley Cyrus called “The Climb.” The lyrics to the song remind me there is always going to be another mountain. We always want to make it move.
But the song tells us it’s not about the success, not about how to make the struggle get easier. Life is about the climb. It’s about what you learn from what you are facing with this struggle, failure or setback. That is what will build your success.
I am reminded of another quote to close out our week and leave you with a call to action:
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
~George Santayana
It is your life and you need to start learning from your failures or you are doomed to repeat them. If you find yourself repeating the same mistakes, now is the time to change. Will you start learning from your failures?
