godspeed_patch1It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, but was it the end of times? You see the idea of the end of the world as we know it is not just a new thing. This idea has been taught by well meaning-preachers for hundreds of years.

Yes, I am a Christian and I have my beliefs about what will happen in end times. I have formed these beliefs over many years of hearing from preachers who taught me what the Bible has to say about this.

But in our world this week we face another of those “end-of-times, doomsday” messages. This time it’s not from some preacher but, from another source. The fact that it’s from a religion that has long passed and not from a Christian or other modern-day religious person just makes it get a little more play.

I have heard this idea from many different people in my lifetime and each one had some facts to support their thinking. If you recall this time last year, there was a lot of talk about the radio show preacher who had talked for years about how either May or October of 2011 would be the end of days.

Many talked about how the world would face tough times like the end of electricity and the use of computers 12 years ago when they year 2000 hit. I recall back to the early ‘90s, when I first heard politics preached from a church about how the world was in trouble because Bill Clinton was elected. The same preacher who predicted the end of the world in 2011 said in 1994 that God was coming back before that year was done.

You see, the end of time has been predicted many times; and I’m not saying this world as we know it will not end one day. But we must live our lives each and every day we are alive working toward bigger things.

One of the best lines I ever heard Zig Ziglar use was when he said he never wanted to reach his grave with a body that was all preserved and looking so well. He told people instead he wanted to end his life with a body all worn out, sliding into the grave and saying “Woohoo! What a ride!”

The last day of this earth no man can predict. But many will continue to try, giving you reasons why they can predict it. The fact is that no one can predict the day their own life will end – much less the entire world.

We must live until we die, so no matter what hardship you might be facing you need to find a hope in each day. One of the best goal-setting quotes I ever heard is: “What is the goal of a 90-year-old person? To reach 91.” Even they have a goal and so should you because you do not know how many days you have left.

So what are you planning for 2013? What are you planning for a new beginning in your life? The time to plan is now…
