It’s the last week of 2012, the last full week anyway. I have now been posting on the blog for close to 100 weeks straight, 5 days a week. I wanted to change things up and talk about something different on this last week of 2012.
This week will not have lessons; will not have pointers. It will have Christmas songs that I love. This week will feature short posts naming the song and why I like it. In some cases I took some suggestions from my fan page subscribers on Facebook, Twitter, and from email subscribers who submitted their favorite songs and how they are inspired by the song.
Today I chose the song, “Carol of the Bells.” I have heard it played by a large church orchestra and by small groups on just a few instruments. When I asked people to tell me songs that inspired them, my local friend here in the Dallas, TX area, Amanda Lewis (her company is Insedia Marketing Solutions), jumped to tell me she liked this one. Here is what she told me about why she liked this song:
Like this song, life is sometimes not peaceful bells and harps. You have to motivate yourself and take things like a grain of salt. Grab life by the horns and go for the ride!
She suggested a version of it she liked by a group, August Burns Red. I must say it was a great version of it when I listened. Take a listen here to that version and see what you think: Carol of the Bells ~August Burns Red.
My favorite version has always been from the Trans Siberian Orchestra, which you can listen to here. I love the video with the little girl. It seems to bring back the innocence and joy of Christmas once again.
Hearing this song just tells me Christmas rocks. No matter what struggles the year has brought, life has a new beginning just around the corner, but you have to be looking for it.
I hope you are inspired this week of Christmas, and if Christmas is not your holiday when I tell you, “Merry Christmas,” then give me your preferred holiday greeting back. One of my sons always says, “Happy Solar Messiah Appearance Day!” and he always says it with true enthusiasm and joy. I love this time of year.
