In our high tech world, you see this statement on almost every package that you pick up. One of the great little gadgets of my day was the Sony Walkman. I remember when it was the hottest toy to own. Yet it did not come with batteries. You had to buy them separately. I also remember if you had this toy or some other small game device, the batteries always seemed to die in the middle of a game, and there was never a new set in the house to replace them.
With modern technology it has gotten to be a little different. Now, from your computer to your iPod to your cell phone, everything has its own batteries and they do not interchange. But there is something they can do: recharge. How many different chargers do you have around the house for different devices? And, even if you have something that uses the old school batteries that you change when they’re out of juice, you can now plug them in to recharge. You find that no matter the toy, it needs a power source and nowadays, and there are ways to keep things continually charged and recharged.
Ok, Tim, I see where you’re coming from. How are you going to make this work with a self-help process in our lives?
In your life, you were created to run with a power source. Think over your life; imagine how long you can run before you need to be recharged? I find in my life that I need to always have some power source or power supply to get me charged up again and keep me charged. When I was younger it was just going to buy a new gadget, or a new toy. Then I would be charged up for a while to keep going. When I became an adult, it was still “buy something” only something bigger – a new car, or electronic toy to get me going again. I tried to use things to recharge me.
But then I moved to the part in life where other people became part of my life: marriage, kids, family, etc. Once you have gotten to this part of your life, you see that you cannot just go buy a new toy or car to get you charged again.
In the Bible, in the book of Corinthians, it says: When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.
So I’m not going to say that you are childish, but I want to make you think about what it takes to keep yourself recharged in life. If you are reading this blog, most likely you are a person who is into personal growth, seeking a form of wisdom to help you become a wiser, stronger person. You are probably looking to grow in your life and make your world, as well as the world around you, a better place. And I write all my blogs to help you in whatever stage of growth you are in.
So back to the batteries in our lives: what does it take to recharge you in life? I just hope you are looking each day to find things that will charge your world to make it better. If you are on a journey of self improvement, then you might find blogs like this to read, maybe books from great authors to help you on that journey. Maybe you buy the tapes and CDs to listen to in your car because they motivate you and keep your batteries charged.
I want to encourage you to switch to a plug-in source to charge your batteries. I went through a lot of different temporary solutions before I found a strong, rock-solid source in my life. What is that source, you may ask. For me it’s Jesus Christ. Yes I have told you before I’m a Christian, and no, this blog is not my way of evangelism. I’m just sharing that I do believe and follow Jesus. And I know that I must plug in to His source each day to recharge my batteries in life. A great book, tape, speaker, event is now like a double AA battery: it works for a while, but has to be replaced. Jesus, the Bible, prayer, these are a Rock-solid power source that I plug in to on a regular basis to always be charged and ready to handle the world.
I leave you with this today: find a way to keep yourself charged. If it takes a book, then keep a continual list of books that you will be reading. I encourage you to keep a list of blogs to read, find them on the web and follow them to get what you need. If you would like to know more about my belief system, or want to know more about the Jesus I serve, feel free to contact me. I will tell you about Him, as well as get you plugged in to a place of growth in the town where you live.
Until next time, I’m Tim Gillette, the Rocker Life Coach, telling you to LIVE the life you always dreamed of, LOVE what you do and the world you’re in, ROCK ON to become a Rockstar, standing out where you are.
