Well, it’s Friday and we are wrapping up our week. I enjoyed this week and talking about one of my favorite subjects: Ideal Living. Today I wanted to discuss one more subject that is very relevant to the topic. When we decide that we want to redesign or change our lives, the question to ask is: “Are you willing to pay the price that is required to get your ideal life?”

This week I met a young man who stated his dream was to join a club. He hadn’t even considered what getting into the club required; he just wanted to be in this certain club. Sometimes, when you have an ideal, or a dream, there is a path that you must take to get to it. As this young man told me about this dream, he was just beginning the research what was needed to get into this particular club. In doing the research he found it was not what he really wanted. He did not want to go through what it would take to get accepted into the club.

So let’s think about what it is you are seeking in your life. With each dream, or pursuit of an ideal dream life, there is a price to pay to reach it. A few weeks ago, I wrote about setbacks and how they will happen. Well when you are in pursuit of a dream, there will be things that you will have to do. If you want to be part of a certain organization, there will be things you must do first. If you want to make a change in your life, it will involve work.

Early this week we mentioned that you are where you want to be, based on the choices you made to get you there. If you want a change, you have to make different choices. Well this is where you will have to make some changes. Some of you will have to take on more education. Some will have to cut things out. For each of us to go from where we are to our ideal, there will be a path which may involve a change of direction.

So what must you do to know you are ready for the journey towards your ideal living? If you have found where you want to go, have you done the research about how to get there?  Like the young man I spoke to this week, who wanted to join a certain club, the trials may be more than you’re willing to endure.

I speak with many groups of people who talk about living the dream, chasing a dream. They speak of how at one time they had this small idea of where they wanted to go. Then one day it seemed to form into a purpose they had to get to. The stronger the dream got the more passion they had, till nothing could stand in the way.

Imagine if you knew beyond a doubt that to get the ideal life you wanted you had to work for two years at your full-time job and had to take 20 hours in classes to get the education that you needed. Would you willing to go through this to get what you want?  Well, while we don’t always have the comfort of knowing exactly what is required to reach our ideal, we often know what steps we MUST take to start in that direction.

The good news in all of this, as you go through each and every trial it takes to reach that dream, is that joy will come as you realize that you are continually moving one step closer. The closer that you get the more excitement you will feel knowing that you are getting closer. Each time you have a setback you are still driven enough to overcome it and to make that dream or goal continue to be a part of your life.

So let me give you three things today to give you hope as you know you must face a tough time going from where you are to your new ideal.

  1. Keep your ideal life, or dream that is in front of you, guiding you. This could be in the form of a goal sheet, an affirmation, or pictures. As you know, you’re going to face the hard times so you need something to keep you focused and on target to get where you want to go.
  2. Set up small rewards. As you are designing an ideal life, you are going to have to go through different steps to get there. Sometimes the challenges will be great and other times they will be easy. You need to set the small goals to get you there, then reward yourself for reaching those small goals.
  3. Have a helper. This is where you have that mentor to keep you on track. Or the friend to keep accountable. Or the coach to make sure you are working toward those goals, keeping your plan in action, giving you the pointers to know when to adjust the plan.

This is a tough subject to tell you about. Most people don’t want to hear about things being tough; they want to hear that it will be easy. They want to hear words of encouragement or motivation that amount to just a cheering session. Well, life has these little setbacks, and a real dream of living an ideal life is worth the challenge that you must face to achieve it. So decide for yourself today that no matter the price, you’re going to live your dream.

Love the pic…still looks like PA. We do have such a beautiful state. Having someone to be accountable to is important.
