At the beginning of the week I promised I’d write about another icon that was taken away from us too early. This one happened long before I was born. Buddy Holly was from the Lubbock, TX area. He was a man who was inspired by Elvis Presley in 1955 when he started out, but had only a short-lived music career that ended in 1959.

So many people have been impacted and inspired by his music. When I was reading his Wikipedia page these are some of the people who listed him as an inspiration: the Beatles, Elvis Costello, the Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Bob Dylan, and Eric Clapton.

Imagine doing something over only a four-year time span that would impact so many people; that would influence generations to come. Imagine someone following in your footsteps some 20 years after you are gone. Well that is the story for the people on the list of names above.

As we finish up this week of icons in the Rock ‘n’ Roll world, I want you to spend some time thinking about what your legacy on this earth is. Has someone influenced you so much that you changed what you are doing to become something great?

With the Olympics this year, one of the biggest stories was of Michael Phelps who is now the most decorated Olympian of all time. In an interview, he told how he wanted to be known as the best at something. He said he was inspired by Michael Jordan. While he could not become the best in basketball, he did become the best in Olympic gold medals.

I leave you today with this challenge: what are you going to be the best at in your life? I told a man I met this morning how my message was to stand out and be the best you that you can be.

Buddy Holly was the best at something. He has inspired many other musicians; songs have been written about him; movies have been made about his life, shows created to share his story. Today’s blog pays honor to him and tells you that you can become the best with the small amount of time and skills you have. You can be the best.

I’m Tim Gillette, the Rocker Life Coach. It’s time to live your dream, to love what you do and those you share life with. Become the best you that you can; you will inspire others and you will be the RockStar in your world.
