For Those About to Rock

It is Friday in a great week of RockStar events. While I have enjoyed traveling this week, it was exciting to get back to Dallas and start connecting with clients who have been scheduling events and times with me over the past year. I spent most of my day yesterday calling clients just to talk with them.

One of the things I wanted to do as soon as I got back to town was to connect with those people I have worked with over the years as a life coach to share the great changes I’ve experienced. I also wanted to give them a chance to be the first to benefit from all the great things I’ve learned.

A key thought I have used with coaching is, “It always gets better.” Each time I come back from events like this, I first call everyone and tell them what I learned, and then talk about how we can help them make changes in their lives to take them to a new level of RockStar.

While I still have a few more calls to make I’m so excited to offer better things, new programs. What is great is those who are existing clients get it at no additional charge. Basically, I learn more but never charge my existing clients more to share it with them. You learn from my wisdom, you gain from my search to better myself.

So what changes are you going to make to your world today? This week has been about getting ready to rock. “For those about to rock, we salute you.” It’s a great AC/DC song, but it also has a great message you are receiving from me. I am excited that not only am I going to be able to help people learn ways to clean up life, help them find what they love to do, but I also teach them the entrepreneurial mindset as part of the coaching program.

In the next two weeks we will be putting together some great events, including several small events in cities and webinars to help you learn in a matter of hours how to make changes to make your world Rock.

We are planning one big event to transform your life in a weekend in September. In one weekend you will get lessons on the RockStar life: how to get rid of what’s not working, find what you really love to do, and build an entrepreneurial mindset to help you go from where you are to living your RockStar dream. We are now scheduling speakers to teach things like writing a book in a short period of time and building business relationships that helps you build your business. So be ready for that event to be announced.

Right now it’s weekend time and I am going to spend time with my family this weekend as it’s been a few weeks since we have sat down to enjoy one of our lake house parties. Here’s wishing you your own RockStar weekend.

I’m Tim Gillette, the Rocker Life Coach. It’s time to live your dream, to love what you do and those you share life with. Be ready to become the RockStar in your world.

Train Kept A-Rolling

I’m still on a fired-up ride home from the RockStar marketing boot camp. As I’ve been driving over these past two days I am filled with so many ideas to help grow my business, help with providing you ways to help change your life and grow also.

I am reminded of that old Aerosmith song, “Train Kept A-Rolling All Night Long.” As I was settling into my hotel last night, I was having such a hard time resting. The ideas kept coming to me about the great event we are starting to plan for this fall in Dallas.

I was able to speak with one of my partners who is going to join forces with me to bring together this great RockStar life event. Do you remember when you had so many ideas for your life that you could not wait to get up and face each day? That is how I am feeling now, but like my mentor Zig would say, “If you want something in life you must help enough other people.” So this train is going to be about you getting your life right. Finding that very excitement that I am feeling while writing this, that feeling where you can’t sleep at night because you are so excited about your life.

What was the last thing that you got excited about? What were you willing to give up making that dream come to a reality? It’s time for you to start making a list of things that bring you joy, to find a passion that you have in your heart. Rocker Life Coach programs are about three things and we are going to use these three things to change your life.

1.  Clean out the clutter that is holding you back? The first step in the process to getting what you want is realizing there are things that are holding you back. If you know you want more, you know you are going to have to release the weights that are holding you down. For some of you that may be the job you have; for others it may be the home that is keeping you imprisoned. No matter what it is, we all have something we are holding onto that is keeping us from the dream we want.

2.  Find out what you really want to do with your life. We have heard that the way to find this out is by asking the question, “What would you do with your time if you won a million dollars?” Or answering the question, “If I bought you any car you wanted what would it be?” I believe the real way to find out what you want in life is by asking the question, “What would you do with the most precious of all things – your time?” After all the most valuable thing of mine is my time.

3.  What is your RockStar dream and how can we build a business model to help you live that dream? Many have a dream to run their own company. For others it is running a charity or foundation to help others, from those who need help in the town we live in to those in a special part of the world we have a heart for.

It’s time for you to change the mindset and reach for your RockStar dream. And my job is helping you develop that entrepreneur mindset that will help you build a large data base of ideas taking you towards your dream.

So while I am driving with excitement to begin helping you, make your own start with your list of what you want, what you love to do, and what needs to be cleaned up to get there.

Number One Mentor: Zig Ziglar

Good Friday morning to you. It has been an awesome week featuring true leaders in the coaching and speaking world. I am excited this week to tell about those who helped me to change to a life of self-improvement. Each person I have told about has been such an inspiration that it was a joy to share about them. Today is no different, as every one of my mentors who I talked to was honored to find themselves in a group with this man.

I want to tell you a little about the story of how Zig came into my life. In 2002, I had just left a job of running a truck repair shop in the Dallas area. I was working to help a friend start a home theater installation and design company. Another friend and home builder in the area asked me to go to his church and visit. It was a great Sunday to meet my friend, Bob, and his wife and daughters as we attended Prestonwood Baptist, a mega-church here in the Dallas area. As we were walking out the doors, headed to our cars, I was introduced to this lively older gentleman. Bob said, “Tim, let me introduce you to Zig Ziglar.” The name sounded familiar, but I had never connected the face with the name.

You see, years before I had received a signed copy of See You at the Top, one of Zig’s books. But it was nothing more than a dust collector on my shelf. And while it didn’t mean much to me at the time, I’m sure many of you right now are thinking, “I wish you could have the chance to meet Zig like that.”

At that time in Zig’s life, he was teaching one of the Bible study classes at the church and his fame drew many to the church and to his class to get a product to him or to pass information to him. I have never been that way. If you have read the blogs where I talked about working on the sound system in former Dallas Cowboy Darren Woodson’s home, or the fact that I have been the person making Troy Aikman’s hot chocolate at Starbucks, you know I believe these are real people and when meeting them, I talk to them just like I would talk to you.

I got to know Zig without going over to his office or working an angle to talk to him. I just walked up and said “Hi.” From that time in 2002 to the time I sold my business in 2004 I was able to have one-on-one conversations with him. I never asked for something, but those friendly conversations were where Zig told me how to become a speaker. He also told me he thought I would make a good life coach.

Many years later, I met Zig in the grocery store after not seeing him for some time. He remembered me and the things we had talked about and it was then he told me I should pursue life coaching using this ‘80s Rocker look to my advantage.

So many people get star-struck by people they follow, forgetting the very thing that Zig teaches: if you help enough other people get what they want in life, you will get what you want.

This week I am in Los Angeles with my Number 4 mentor, Craig Duswalt and I am putting the wisdom of Zig’s quote to work. Yes I want to spend personal one-on-one time with Craig, but he has a show to run this week. He is planning a great event, so I’m going to help others while I’m here.

Zig is my biggest mentor; it was not until I met him that I read one of his books. I never attended an event he spoke at until after I shook his hand and was personally introduced to him. I never heard him speak before I was able to see who he was in real life. That is why he is my number one mentor: I watched him live his life, before I became a great follower. This is the reason I am always willing to sit and meet and help others; I want to be known for being real first and a motivator second.

So in this week I hope that you have found great inspiration from the stories of those top people who are my mentors. Thanks for reading. Find mentors in your life and for the right reasons to become the RockStar in your world.

My #2 Mentor: Tony Robbins

Good Thursday morning. Wow has this week gone by fast for me. It has been an exciting week for me, telling you about the people who inspired me to first become a coach, to become a better coach, and to become a better person myself. It is also exciting to see readers coming to visit the blog each day; I love how blogs about people helping people inspire even more readers to come by each day.

My number two mentor is well-known in the self-help industry. He is a long-time coach, speaker, motivator and, if you have ever been to one of his events, you know he is a life changer. I had heard of Tony Robbins in the early 90s while I was in direct sales and multi-level marketing, but I heard about him in a negative way. However, I did not let that distract me; I still went and checked him out. Over the years I would watch those TV infomercials; I read his books and learned about the power we have to change our world.

Over the years as the internet became more of a place to find information, I looked up more on Tony and read anything I could learn from him. It was not until I was at one of his live events in 2006 that I was able to get a more in-depth perspective. I was able to apply it in a real way to my life.

So let me share how Tony helped me. Just like many of my other mentors, I have met Tony but I have not had that one-on-one time with him. For someone to be a mentor to you, it’s not always in that one-to-one face time that you get the learning. This has become the great value of books of learning, the great value of the internet. Tony inspired me to be the self-help person that I am always working to be. He is a self-help person first. He is also a celebrity. Anytime you see him – whether in a movie like Shallow Hal or visiting another show – he uses his celebrity status for self-help purposes. If you go back and look at all the things he is in, they all show him telling a series of things to help people make changes in life.

While some may think the Rocker idea is about me becoming a RockStar, I am about helping you become that star. I want to be like Tony in that every time I meet someone I hope they will remember me for something great I help them discover about their lives. This week while staying at my hotel I went to sit in the pool and spa area. A young man started a conversation with me. The conversation got to what his dreams are in life for a business. We talked for over an hour and I helped him see what was holding him back. I helped him think of several different ways to take his business idea. Just reaching out to that guy in that way shows what the inspiration of Tony Robbins is to me.

Today I want to leave you with this final thought about finding mentors in life. You do not have to know them personally. Tony Robbins’ mentor was Jim Rohn. In my case I don’t know Tony personally. But he has taught me things with great tools: books, appearances, CDs and now mp3 podcasts of his speeches and informational schooling. For some it could just be that influence of attending one live event of a person they watched for some time. From that live event they make life changing choices that impact them for the rest of their life.

So you now have four of the top five mentors in my life. Do you have any idea who the top mentor will be? Who could be bigger to me than Tony Robbins? Tomorrow I share the story of the top mentor in my life and how he was a greater impact in life than all of these.

Week of Mentors # 3 Rhonda Hess

It’s the middle of the week of mentors. I’m arriving in Los Angeles today to be part of the great RockStar Marketing Boot camp hosted by yesterday’s mentor. Today we are going to talk about a mentor of mine who is behind the schooling I took to become a life coach. And the next two days are going to be devoted to people who inspired me to change my life – one of them is a great, well-known man who personally told me his opinion of what I was good at.

Today’s mentor I have yet to meet in person. I know her because she was a co-founder of the coaching program I went through to become a coach. I spent four years researching coaching programs and schools for coach training and the one school that kept coming back to me was the Coach Training Alliance out of Colorado. Its two founders are Will Craig and Rhonda Hess. After signing up for and attending the school, I was sent emails for many other programs to get my coaching business off the ground. One invitation I received was a special opportunity to hear Rhonda Hess on a Webinar.

From the early stages of listening to Rhonda’s webinar that day and listening to her CDs with schooling and training, it was Rhonda’s voice that sticks in my head; it’s a big part of who you find me to be today. I sent an email to Rhonda last week to let her know where she was placed in my roster of mentors. Her response is one of the things that makes her a great coach and mentor to all who want to become a coach. She told me, “I want you to tell people how things I told you helped to shape you as a coach.”

So today I really want to brag about how important Rhonda is to my growth. I’m going to stick to her request. Thanks to what she taught me I am able to help others learn to become great themselves. Maybe someday someone will be able to write how things they heard me say changed their business – just like Rhonda changed mine. There are three things that have been particularly important:

1.  Get your business online and find a web name that describes your business or who you are. I can still hear Rhonda’s voice on the CDs telling me these things at the end of the lesson that day I went to the web and started searching domain names. At first I found Rocker Coach; that sounded cool but it was not what I wanted to be known for – just being cool. So I found RockerLifeCoach.com. If you are reading this today, it is because of a tip from Rhonda to buy this domain and brand it as my business.

2.  I became a regular follower or the blog that Rhonda posts at Prosperouscoachblog.com. Not only do I own my .com domain name but also Rockerlifecoachblog.com. In one of her posts Rhonda, wrote about how coaches need a blog, not a web page. It was at that time I started blogging. I have built a regular habit of blogging to always share valuable information with people. Now many people come to me for help in getting their blogs up and going. It was Rhonda’s idea to always be giving value to attract people to you.

3.  Niche to be rich. Rhonda is famous in the coaching world for her many courses, but her theme as a coach is for you to build a small niche that works for you. Just last week at an event in Las Vegas, I was asked this question: “If someone is looking for a life coach should I send them to you?”  My answer to this came from my training with Rhonda about finding a niche. If you just want a life coach to deal with things in your life, I can show you a list of coaches who deal with small things. If you are sick of where you are at, if you want to change, if you need start over, I work to help you go from one of these places in life and create a life that is your RockStar dream. Rocker Life Coach is about building a life, living a RockStar dream. At the end of every blog I remind readers that it’s time to live your dream, to love what you do and those you share life with. Become the RockStar in your world.

I mentioned above that Rhonda and I have never met in person but as a coach, if you send her a personal email, she responds. In fact, one of the great things about my mentors list is I have not met all of them in person but, with one exception, I have talked to or exchanged emails with every one of the top five. These are personal leaders in the coaching industry yet no matter how big they get, they make every attempt to return messages. So in a nutshell, this is mentor number three for me. If you are a coach or if you have thought about being a coach go subscribe to Rhonda’s newsletter, and follow her blog, prosperouscoachblog.com.
