Now That We’re Rich, Give Us More

Now That We’re Rich, Give Us More

worldmoneyI recall the day at church when my pastor started a sermon series about the subject of riches and America. The community I lived in at the time in North Dallas was one of the richest places in America. He asked everyone who made more than $40,000 a year to stand up.

Almost everyone in the room was standing. He then shared that we were in the top 10% income bracket in the world. Then he asked everyone who made $50,000 a year or more to stay standing while all others sat. He shared that those who were now standing were part of the top 2% income bracket in the world.

If you live in America right now one of the many things we hear right now is how people do not have jobs and that the only jobs that are available are low-paying jobs. Even today, I spoke with people who told me they needed to have a wage of at least $20 an hour to be able to survive.

Money, money, money. As I was growing up, we heard over an over again that money was the root of evil. Today we are told that the rich are so greedy, how could those executives live with themselves taking such high salaries? I must say that the words that come out of our mouths are impacting us, as well as the next generation.

Your kids and their kids are hearing these statements you are making. We are taking them to heart and they become our reality. We live in a blessed nation where we can create a better world for ourselves. But the actual tools to build that are stripped from us. Those people who tell us they want to help are the ones broadcasting the failure pattern to get there.

Again we fall on another tragedy in America: people who have spent years programming their minds that money is evil; watching 24-hour news channels broadcasting the failure and collapse of the free enterprise system, the system that entrepreneurs need to build the jobs you need to make more money.

Movie producers like Michael Moore who create these “information documentary films” to help educate you on the problems that are created when we follow a certain path spread that myth. Many people follow and believe things that are put on the TV simply because it’s put in a movie.

Everything we do will have a side effect; there are results that backfire. There is no perfect system, and the world is full of critics to point out the bad parts. I personally take a drug for my seizure disorder; that drug has a side effect. But I learn to manage the side effects for the purpose of maintaining my overall health, to give me certain freedoms to enjoy the life I want.

So the real tragedy today is we have opportunities to grow. If we cannot afford our lifestyle on the highest wage we are being offered, we must find areas of our lives to cut back to live within the money we can make.

When working to teach you to be an entrepreneur, I tell you if you aren’t yet able to make the money you need, then you need to find a way to do something on the side. I wrote a post a few years ago about how I sold things I wasn’t using in the house then took the money from the sale and invested in apple stock (AAPL). I was able to take around $1,200 and bought about 3 shares at $350 then sold them a month later at $450. I made a little money.

The solutions are out there but too many are fast to say, “Yeah, but.” It’s time to turn this tragedy around, learn to live on less, or find ways to make more. Usually a combination of both solves the problem. That and stop listening to the people who keep programming you to believe it’s hopeless out there. Usually the ones telling you things are hopeless are the ones trying to sell hope. They are telling you this by creating a hopeless mindset to sell their ideas.

Are you ready to make the change and find the solution? I’m ready to help those who want to walk away from this trap.
